Developed by Boeing (previously McDonnell Douglas), the F/A-18 Hornet is an advanced multi-role aircraft used by the US Navy and Marines. The aircraft took to the skies in November of 1978 with the first production aircraft flying in the spring of 1980. The initial production run of the aircraft was 380 F/A-18As.
In 1987, the F/A-18C was unveiled. Both A and C are single-seater aircraft, while the B and D variants are tandem-seaters. In total, 1,480 examples of the F/A-18 were built.
